Traveling to Sun Valley

Sun Valley is in Central Idaho, about 2.5 hours East of Boise, and is known for having some of the best hiking, fly fishing, and skiing in the country. We are making a big ask of you all to come celebrate with us in Sun Valley, so we want to be sure to provide as much information on travel as we can to make it easier to get there.

Below we've listed out travel and lodging options that vary in price and convenience. Summer in Sun Valley is a gorgeous time of year, and can therefore be very popular and busy. We encourage you to book your flights and accommodations for the weekend as soon as you know that you’ll be able to join us.

Also, note that Sun Valley is adjacent to a town called Ketchum, and many people use them somewhat interchangeably. Most hotels are in the downtown area of Ketchum, while many Airbnbs are in the more residential Sun Valley and Elkhorn (also nearby).

Flying to Sun Valley (SUN)

Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) is ~10 miles south of Ketchum, and many hotels in town provide complimentary shuttles to and from the airport. There are direct flights available from Seattle, SF, LA, SLC, Denver, and Chicago.

This is the most convenient option for getting to Sun Valley, but oftentimes is also the most expensive.

Flying to Boise (BOI) / Salt Lake City (SLC)

Boise Airport (BOI) offers a greater number of flight options that can be more affordable than SUN. You can rent a car and drive to Sun Valley (~2.5 hrs) or take the Sun Valley Express , which departs BOI daily at 3:30 PM.

Salt Lake City Airport (SLC) is ~4.5 hours from Sun Valley and offers the most flight options from around the country.

Getting Around Sun Valley

Sun Valley is very small and walkable. The Mountain Rides bus system is free and serves Sun Valley, Ketchum and Elkhorn. We will provide shuttles to and from the wedding.

If you plan on hiking, fishing or exploring beyond Ketchum, a rental car is recommended to take full advantage of the area. You can rent through Hertz, Enterprise, or Avis at any of the mentioned airports.

There are taxi services in town, that you can book in advance. Uber/Lyft are extremely limited and unreliable.

  • Sun Valley Resort

    The historic resort located in Sun Valley, a 5 minute drive from Ketchum. Includes the Sun Valley Lodge, Inn, Condos, and Apartments.

    We have a room block that offers 30% off standard rates of all room types at Sun Valley Resort. This hotel tends to book up quickly in the summer. There is no night minimum.

  • Hotel Ketchum

    Well located in downtown Ketchum. It’s a ~10 minute walk from the hotel to the welcome party location (the Warfield).

    We have a room block that offers 20% off standard rates for most rooms, with a two-night minimum. This is the most affordable hotel.

  • Limelight Hotel

    Closest in location to our welcome party location. More modern, and less western, than other hotel options in the area.

    We have set a discounted rate for the weekend with a three-night minimum required. Rooms here are on the most expensive side of hotels.

  • Knob Hill Inn

    Boutique hotel with a lovely outdoor patio restaurant that’s a 15-minute walk from downtown Ketchum. This hotel is dog friendly!

    Rates are currently ~$429/night for a king room next summer. Please note there may be road construction near this hotel next August.

  • Best Western Plus

    Across the street from the Limelight Hotel & similarly close in proximity to the welcome party and ceremony shuttle location.

    A 10% discount code is available for guests by naming Newton/Parker Wedding when booking. Also applies to the nearby Best Western (cheaper option).

  • House Rentals

    There are house rentals available in Sun Valley, which can often be the best options for groups who want to stay together.

    If you stay at a house rental, you may want to rent a car for transportation into town, as taxis will require advance booking, and Uber/Lyft are extremely limited.
